The early years (2006 workshop, Phase I & Phase II).

Most of the funding in these phases went to IRRI. In addiiton to funding the main team led by John Sheehy and later Paul Quick (with outstanding technical support led by Jacque Dionara and admin support led by Anaida Ferrier), rice transformation in the groups of Inez Slamet-Loedin and Ajay Kohl, bioinformatics led by Richard Bruskiewich, and genetic screens led by Hei Leung were all part of the larger IRRI endeavour. Many non-IRRI group leaders and institutions were engaged, as illlutsrated in the figure below, often using their own funding to support the project in recognition of its huge potential.
